Just yesterday, we posted an article on how David Wright is – let us say – lacking in the clutch hit department. We noted how it took a miracle at-bat from Ike Davis to deliver the key hit against the Braves so often lacking from David Wright in late inning situations. Well, Captain Wright must have read our article because he sure showed us yesterday by smacking a huge dinger in the 7th inning to tie the game against the Yankees – a game eventually won by the Amazin’s against all odds by a 2-1 final score.
That’s the best part of MetsFanClub.com – we’re realistic, yet fair and admit to our mistakes. Maybe we shouldn’t be as hard on David Wright as we’ve been. But let’s clarify something: we never said he was a bad player or any kind of problem for this beleaguered team.
Wright also tripled in the game, going 2-for-3 to raise his average to .291. The game tying monster shot was his first homerun at CitiField for the season. But once again, the rest of the Mets offense went limp, spoiling a nice outing by Jonathan Niese, who took a no-decision despite going seven innings of 1-run pitching. Regarding run support, it’s like that girl in the ATT commercial – “we want more, we want more”.
We’ve got Matt Harvey going today in game 2 of the Subway Series. Prove us wrong again David, we love it! Crow tastes great when the Mets are winning!
